Book and Stories
We have been reading “Five Little Reindeer,” learning to count whilst discovering key Christmas vocabulary, noticing pictures, and pressing the squishy reindeer which brings the story to life through touch. We have also enjoyed “Dear Santa” by Rod Campbell, taking turns to open the flaps and following the repeated pattern nature of the story, which helps children anticipate what comes next and build comprehension skills.
Christmas Songs
The children have been learning festive versions of familiar songs including “Incy Wincy Spider Climbed Up the Christmas Tree,” “Twinkle Twinkle Christmas Star,” “Father Christmas,” and “I’m A Little Snowman.” These adapted songs connect familiar melodies with new Christmas vocabulary whilst developing memory and musical skills.
Creative Christmas Activities
We have been making glitter baubles, using glue and glitter to decorate our own baubles on paper whilst using spreaders and choosing colours, developing fine motor skills and decision-making. The children have been making snowmen using cotton wool and glue to create snowman pictures, exploring texture and creating winter scenes. We have also decorated paper Christmas trees using gems, tinsel, shiny paper, and glue, experimenting with different materials and creating our own unique festive decorations.
