Tiger and Zebra Group at Cashmore Early Years Centre had an exciting opportunity to visit Windmill Hill City Farm across the first two weeks of Term 6. The children travelled in three smaller groups, setting off on a real adventure that began with a walk to Lawrence Hill train station, followed by a train journey to Bedminster and a walk to the farm.
The journey itself was a highlight, with children fully engaged in the experience of travelling by train. They enjoyed watching the changing views from the windows, listening carefully to announcements, and confidently waving to passengers and the driver. These moments supported children’s communication and language development, as well as their understanding of the wider world.
At the farm, the children explored a wide range of animals and plants. They showed curiosity and care as they stroked the soft lambs and listened closely to the loud geese. Spotting the piglets created a real sense of excitement and wonder. These experiences encouraged the children to ask questions, make observations, and deepen their understanding of living things.
The day also included time to sit together and enjoy packed lunches, as well as energetic play in the gravel pit, which supported children’s physical development and cooperative play. The return journey gave children another chance to reflect on their experiences and share their favourite moments with friends.
A big thank you goes to all the parent and carer volunteers who supported the trip. Their help made it possible for the children to take part in such a rich and memorable experience.
