Our Two’s Area Exploring Motor Skills Activities
In the two’s area we have been focusing on fine motor skills exploring scissors, tweezers and pegs.
Fine motor skills are the tiny movements we make with our hands, fingers, feet and toes.
They allow us to do countless everyday tasks. For a child, fine motor skills are important for drawing and developing writing skills.
Fine motor control is a complex process that requires:
- Awareness and planning.
- Coordination.
- Muscle strength.
- Precision (dexterity).
Activities such as cutting paper with scissors teaches the children how to correctly hold a pair of scissors carefully while also helping their hand-eye coordination.
Tweezers are a great way to develop strength in the hand as they need to squeeze them together tight enough to pick up little objects such as toy animals or beads.
