Celebrating Lunar New Year

Recently, the children at Cashmore Early Years Centre explored Lunar New Year traditions as we welcomed the Year of the Snake in 2025. Our learning journey encompassed engaging, multi-sensory activities supporting key developmental areas.

Creative expression flourished as children drew and coloured snake pictures, developing their fine motor skills and artistic capabilities. Making money wallets not only tied into cultural traditions but also enhanced their manipulative skills and understanding of practical crafts.

Our scientific investigation of noodles provided a fascinating insight into how materials and textures can change. Children observed and discussed the transformation from hard to soft during cooking. This hands-on experience supported early scientific thinking and vocabulary development.

The children were particularly engaged in mark-making activities inspired by Chinese writing, using paint to create their own interpretations.

In our home area, children strengthened their fine motor control through the use of tweezers, tongs, and chopsticks – essential skills that support early writing development. The experience culminated in a taste exploration of noodles with soy sauce (yum! 😋), introducing new flavours and encouraging discussions about different foods and cultures.
